Australian designer brand Bec + Bridge is phasing out non-recyclables from online packaging, based on a broader sustainability push.

The new packaging is produced from limestone cut-offs and can be recycled with soft plastics.

Founders Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston are committed to a number of sustainability targets for the brand.

"Bec + Bridge’s purpose has always been clear: to be a company that’s kind to all people.

"This ethos is at the forefront of every decision we make, infiltrating our entire organisation so that the quality of our creations live up to our moral and ethical values.

"Bec + Bridge is investing in the future by looking beyond profit towards greater sustainability, accountability and transparency.

"This means constantly reassessing our practises to reduce our impact on the environment, our people and our supply chain."

Here are several ways the designer brand is re-thinking its environmental footprint.

Head office

Bec + Bridge has put in place an internal recycling system for its head office.

Fabric off cuts are recycled and used to build boxing bags for a Sydney based youth centre as well as to make napkins for a local sustainable catering business.

Bec + Bridge has also committed to repairing all faulty garments before replacing them.

It has rolled out further internal initiatives such as keep cups and the purchase of sustainable office supplies and non-toxic cleaning supplies.

In store

Bec + Bridge in-store retail bags are made from sustainably sourced materials and are 100% biodegradable.

Garment swing tags are made from recycled materials and sew in labels are made from 100% recycled polyester produced from plastic bottles that have been recycled and converted into polyester yarn.

By 2021, the brand hopes to have eradicated single use plastic from stores and shoot locations.

Manufacturing

The brand has launched a 'Meet Our Makers' series, profiling various workers in its supply chain and production.

It has a supplier code of conduct, aiming to promote the use of ethical and sustainable practices.
