UPDATE: According to documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Ellery has appointed liquidators. A notice to wind up the company was also filed on April 18. This is days after a resolution to change the company name.

After twelve years of manufacturing and exporting out of Australia, Ellery will be closing its Sydney based production facility, Elleryland Pty Ltd this week.

22 staff were made redundant on April 18th, and two Sydney stores closed on April 16th, 2019.

“I am very proud to have built an independent, globally recognised fashion house from my home, Australia. It has not been without its challenges, which we had always managed to overcome, however unfortunately, running the production out of Australia proved to be commercially unsustainable.

“As a result of some poor strategic decisions that were made, and the high cost of manufacturing in Australia, we have been left with no choice but to close Elleryland, our production facility and Australian operations company.

“I have always championed Australian manufacturing, and this decision was incredibly difficult to make.

I am deeply grateful for the dedication and support of everyone involved,” founder Kym Ellery said.

With the restructure of Ellery Group, the other companies within the group, which include the trademark and the Paris based design company, will continue.

Ellery is in the final negotiations of appointing a new global distributor for the brand, which will also consolidate production in Europe provided longer term stability.
