Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo has announced the official launch date of its newest store in Eastland Shopping Centre.

It will open its doors to the public on Thursday 29 October in line with the centre's first phase of its $665 million redevelopment.

The store is set to be unveiled as a premium large-scale operation with a floor space spanning around 1,045 square metres.

It's hoped that the opening will create around 70 retail jobs for managers and sales assistants.

Uniqlo Australia CEO Shoichi Miyasaka said that the company has targeted Australia as a key location for expansion.

“We’re excited to be opening our third store in Melbourne. We see Melbourne, and Australia more broadly, as a key market for us in the Asia and Oceania region.

“We’ve received a very positive response from Melbournians since we opened our first store last year, and we’re thrilled to be in a position to continue to grow our presence in this market.

“Eastland’s transformation will see it become the epicentre for retail and community engagement in the east, with its position amongst some of the fastest growing suburbs pivotal for Uniqlo to service the outer Eastern Melbourne population."

Eastland will be the third location pinpointed by Uniqlo in Victoria and store number seven in Australia.

Indooroopilly and Brisbane CBD are next on the cards, aiming to open by summer 2015 although no official dates have yet been confirmed by the retailer.

The company currently operates in 16 markets globally operating approximately 1,500 stores.
