Betts Group will shutter its 31 ZU stores across the country from March 1, 2016.

The company's ladies product development manager Robyn Breckler said that the closure will take place due to patchy business for its womens brands.

"We made the decision to close the ZU group. Women's fast fashion at that price point is probably the toughest area in retail right now.

"We want to put our time and resources into the most profitable parts of our business which does not include the ZU brand."

Breckler said that although the company cannot disclose figures, figures remain solid for its men's brands and its online business, while its international wholesale business is also reporting strong growth.

The group is set to increase the retail presence of its Airflex stores across Australia which has launched in the market as a modern comfort brand.

“By the start of next year there will be a significant increase in the number of Airflex stores and continue to open up new Betts stores. We will also continue to aggressively grow our international wholesale business."

The company has made no new appointments within the business to facilitate the restructure and expansion of its brand stable.
