Australian swimwear label Bondi Bather finally unveiled its partnership with pop culture icon Hello Kitty at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

Hello Kitty is a $7 billion global marketing phenomenon.

The SS16 collection Harajuku Hipsters range was showcased to audiences at The Box, Carriageworks last week.

Bondi artist Alana Williams was commissioned to illustrate Hello Kitty alongside images of local surroundings photographed by Bondi Rescue lifeguard and photographer Anthony Glick.

One of the pieces features a Swarovski crystal studded swimsuit aiming to depict Hello Kitty star-gazing at the Australian night sky.

Bondi Bather managing director Kerry Cusack believes the collection is a collaboration of two cultural icons.

“When I think of Hello Kitty, I think iconic, the same way the world views Bondi. There’s only one of them. Their universal appeal and interest transcends the norm. It was a simple decision when we were approached by Sanrio’s Licensing Agent, Haven Licensing to partner with Hello Kitty. Every female has an affinity to the brand, no matter their age, background or taste. She is timeless and unique, as are we.”

Harajuku Hipsters will be available in a diverse colour palette of block colours consisting of navy, pink, white and black.
