Suburban Adelaide retailers and supermarkets will be required to return to their pre-COVID hours of operation from Sunday 19 July.

The South Australian Government will not grant another 30-day exemption to support physical distancing.

Under the 30-day exemption program, supermarkets and shops were allowed to open two hours earlier from 9am on Sunday and were allowed to trade for four hours longer (until 9pm) on a Saturday and Sunday – if they chose.

Coming into effect in March, the program allowed retailers to operate for extended hours to promote physical distancing to lessen the chance of transmission in-store of COVID-19.

Aligning with other easing restrictions, all non-exempt retailers will return to pre-COVID trading hours from Sunday.
