AMP Capital Shopping Centres has released findings that suggest retailers could be missing out on an important category of shoppers – men.

AMP's annual Recommended Retail Practice Report has unpacked insights based on a survey conducted on male consumers.

It found that while 79% of male respondents said they 'like' shopping, 29% 'love' it.

In terms of traffic 66% of men claim to visit a shopping centre at least once a week.

Men are also reported to be spending more on fashion items at 74% compared to 69% amongst women.

When it comes to buying habits, one in 10 males surveyed said they would spend more money if a retail offering was designed to cater to their interests and needs.

The report suggests it's the time for fashion retailers who provide tailored styling services such as M.J. Bale and Topman to strike while the iron's hot.

AMP Capital Shopping Centres MD Bryan Hynes said that Australian retailers should be responsive to the demands of male shoppers.

“The male shopper has certainly been overlooked by many retailers in the past, and it’s important that we as an industry re-engage with this important group of consumers.

"Retailers need to do more to provide an engaging experience for men that shows they understand their wants and needs, whether it be through the physical décor of the store or by serving them with tailored communications.”

AMP Capital Shopping Centre's recently executed the $670 revitalisation of Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, which is still in the process of rolling out a host of local and international retailers and brands.
