Sass & Bide has changed hands.

Ragtrader.com.au confirmed the departure of its iconic founders Sarah Jane-Clarke and Heidi Middleton last week.

The brand has now confirmed the appointment of new design director Anthony Cuthbertson.

A representative for the brand said Cuthbertson brings extensive experience to the role.

"Anthony has been the creative engine for multiple international brands including Ralph Lauren, Daks, MaxMara and Joseph.

"Most recently he has spent time consulting to brands like Victoria Beckham, Mulberry and Australia’s Scanlan & Theodore."

In a statement issued to ragtrader.com.au last week, the company wished its founders well.

"After 15 years of greatness, sass & bide farewells founders Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton with love and warmth.

"Both Heidi and Sarah-Jane have been slowly transitioning out of the business, and it has now reached a point where both girls feel confident that the business will go on to grow and thrive without their day-to-day involvement.

"The girls leave behind a rich legacy of creating a brand that is built on spirit and heart, qualities that are deeply etched in the collections, the communications and its people.

"Those qualities will continue to define and drive the brand for years to come."

Department store Myer purchased a majority stake in the brand for $42.5 million in 2011.

Clarke and Middleton have been steadily transitioning out of the company since it took full ownership last September.
