Rebecca Judd's activewear label Jaggad has begun eliminating single-use plastics from its production process in an effort to make the brand more environmentally friendly.

Announcing the move alongside the brand's third collection with Judd, Jaggad director Steven Greene said that the move is only the beginning for the brand.

"From October 2019, we will be eliminating single use plastics from our packaging through the entire production process.

"This small change will see hundreds of thousands of bags not being produced and ending up in landfill, which is the first step in our sustainability journey," he said.

To replace the traditional plastic bag the brand used to ship orders from the factory, Jaggad is now using biodegradable poly bags, a decision that the brand details further in a statement on its website.

"2019 will see us implementing new procedures and practices that will move us in the right direction to reducing our brand's carbon footprint and letting our customers feel better about their purchases.

"Our first step in this journey is eliminating single use plastics from our packaging.

"Every Jaggad garment is currently shipped from the factory in a traditional plastic poly bag.

"All orders as of October 2019 will ship from our factories to us in biodegradable poly bags.

"Many brands have made the shift to use sustainable packaging for online orders, but have not mentioned how their goods are shipped to them from the factory as the end customer rarely sees this section of the process.

"We want to be transparent with the entire production process and eliminate plastic in the area where the majority is used i.e. the individual packaging of garments from factory to us.

"We have [also] joined forces with Hero Packaging to send out all online orders from October 2019 in 100% compostable mailers. Our new mailers are home compostable and can be used to feed the worms and create nutritious fertiliser. These will completely break down within 90 days in a compostable environment," the business said.
