Oz designers axe label

Australian denim and apparel label the Eleventh Commandment has announced plans to scrap the brand.

After launching at Sydney Fashion Festival in 2008, founders Henry Holland and Joshua Oldfield have now decided to abolish the label and a sale has commenced on their website.

At its prime the Eleventh Commandment had 30 stockists across Australia and New Zealand, but over the last year the economic downturn saw them lose many.

Despite the loss in trade Sydney-based Holland said the reason for 'putting it to bed' was because both designers wanted to try something new.

Holland will be heading to university to study law and Oldfield will focus on graphic design and on his new label, Trunks.

“We were very happy with the label but we both decided that we had other things that we wanted to pursue and now was the best time to do it,” Holland said. “I wouldn't rule out designing again as who knows a year down the line I may get that creative urge again.”

The brand, which is known for its denim apparel, stocked men and womenswear from dresses and accessories to singlets and shorts.

“To everyone that purchased an Eleventh Commandment garment over the years we hope it holds a special place in your wardrobe,” Holland said. “It was made with blood, sweat, tears, elbow grease, vinegar, hope and plenty of love.”
