Australian denim label Outland Denim has been named as a finalist in the 2020 Stop Slavery Award.

Created in 2015 by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the award recognises businesses that have made it their mission to eradicate forced labour from their supply chains.

The award celebrates those considered 'best in class' who have policies that set high standards to limit the risk of forced labour in their supply chain and operations.

Outland Denim's mission is to use fashion to eradicate poverty by employing seamstresses who have previously been exploited.

Outland Denim founding CEO James Bartle said that being listed as a finalist represented a special milestone for the business.

"To be shortlisted for this award holds particular significance for us, it represents exactly why Outland Denim was created.

"This award is a testament to the huge power small and medium-size businesses can have in eradicating forced labour and contributing to positive social change in vulnerable communities, while inspiring others in their field to do the same," he said.

Outland Denim is shortlisted in the Enterprise small-medium sized business category alongside Alsico Laucuba and Regenesys BPO.

Previous winners of the award include Adidas, Apple and Unilever.

The 2020 winners will be announced on February 20 at an awards ceremony in London.
