Vogue international editor Suzy Menkes is set to land in Sydney this month for two major fashion events.

Menkes will attend a public talk with Australian designer Colette Dinnigan at the Powerhouse Museum as well as be a guest of honour at the Australian Fashion Laureate hosted by IMG.

Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) director Rose Hiscock said that Menkes' visit marks the beginning of an exciting public program for its fashion division.

“The MAAS Centre for Fashion is Australia's first public centre for fashion excellence, and alongside annual exhibitions, such as Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced, the Centre will provide the public with access to influential figures from across the fashion landscape.

“As a trained historian, Suzy is unique among fashion editors, and her work is indicative of a level of scholarship the Museum is looking to encourage through the work of the Centre for Fashion.”

IMG fashion director of brand and strategy Emily Weight also said that the industry is thrilled to welcome Menkes to Australia to meet with local talent.

“We are delighted to be celebrating the breadth of talent within the Australian fashion industry with special guest and most esteemed fashion critic, Suzy Menkes, at the Australian Fashion Laureate Awards.

“Her attendance will add global interest to this important industry event and further support the positioning of Sydney as a viable Global Fashion Capital.

“Menkes will present the pinnacle award for a lifetime of achievement, the Australian Fashion Laureate, in front of an impressive industry guest list at the Sydney Opera House.”

Menkes worked as a fashion journalist and commentator at the International Herald Tribune (now The International New York Times) for 25 years until 2014

She was then appointed to work exclusively for Vogue as international editor.
