Target has thrown its support behind a fresh graduate, with a capsule collection launching today.

University of Technology Sydney graduate Rachael Zheng will kick off the retailer's Australian Stars Program.

Target MD Stuart Machin said the program recognises home-grown talent while offering high-end designs at affordable prices.

“We have collaborated with many local fashion designers and talent including Dion Lee and Dannii Minogue, and Target is excited to formally recognise and demonstrate our commitment to home-grown talent through Australian Stars,” Machin said.

“We’re focused on harnessing the best Australian talent to bring our customers fashionable products which fit their lifestyle and wallet, and customers will see this collective celebration evolve in stores, ranges and online over the next few months.

“Rachael has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with and Target is proud to offer young, local designers with a hands-on experience and invaluable launch pad into the industry.”

‘Rachael Zheng for Target’ is a presentation of 16-pieces featuring high-neck detailing, clean lines and relaxed tailoring combined with core basics.

Zheng said the versatile and balanced range is perfect for the modern wardrobe.

"Rachael Zheng for Target’ is a fresh range that maintains a seventies vibe throughout.

"The collection features beautiful capes, swing shapes and a bespoke retro print I have designed; think Desert Modern style, Palm Springs resort-wear worn by the poolside."

"The quality and construction carried out with each individual item is fantastic.

"We have incorporated premium fabrications including linens, allowing quality garments to be made accessible.

"I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to design a commercial collection with Australia’s biggest retailer, with financial support.

"I have enjoyed developing the collection from concept to final product in this collaboration with Target, and now I’m excited to see women wear the pieces."

Zheng was selected from 12 finalists who participated in the 2015 Virgin Australian Melbourne Fashion Festival National Graduate Showcase, which Target sponsors.

The ‘Rachael Zheng for Target’ womenswear collection is ranged between $29 and $79 and launches in 34 stores and online on November 5, 2015.
