To further support Australians who have been stood down in the wake of COVID-19, the Federal Government is set to expand access to income support payments.

On top of the $550 Coronavirus Supplement payment, the government is temporarily relaxing the partner income test that's required for the regular JobSeeker Payment for six months.

This is to ensure that an eligible person can receive both the JobSeeker Payment and the Coronavirus Supplement if they've been put out of work due to COVID-19.

An eligible individual will be able to receive both payments if their partner earns less than $3,068 per fortnight, around $79,762 per annum.

The personal income test for the JobSeeker Payment will still apply.

In a statement, the government said it is exploring every avenue to help keep Australians in a job.

"Every arm of government and industry is working to keep Australians in jobs and businesses in business, and to build a bridge to recovery on the other side.

"The Government will continue to do what it takes to ensure that Australia bounces back stronger."
