Quiksilver has revealed that its plastic recycling program has recycled over 100 million bottles since launching in 2012.

The program, which is operated in collaboration with Repreve, uses the recycled polyester to repurpose into boardshorts, jackets and other garments.

In a statement, the company said approximately 50% of the company's boardshort range consists of products using recycled polyester with the brand committed to using it in 100% of products over the next few years.

Quiksilver global general manager Garry Wall said the milestone represented an opportunity for the brand to think about its next moves towards sustainability in manufacturing.

“We are very excited to contribute a part to the protection of something we genuinely care about – the ocean.

“Up-cycling plastic waste into something that is useful for us, even today, is an important step.

“There are still many areas where we need to improve and we look forward to bringing green values into all areas of our business, a responsibility that our industry as a whole needs to assume.”
