The Hong Kong Trade Development Council, in conjunction with the
Hong Kong Tourism Board, will present four designer collections at
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia on May 4. Here, Hong-Kong based
designer Harrison Wong takes us through his second in Sydney, which
included a meeting with a Double Bay influential.
9:00 - Got up for a quick breakfast and was out the door for a group photo of the four designers from Hong Kong. Chailie Ho, DoDo Leung, Hei Lau and Me. The setting could not be more dramatic with the photo at the Opera House with the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. The photos are for the Australian and Hong Kong media. Wow, what a view! I wish for a moment that I could be a tourist, but a busy and exciting day beckons.

10:00 - The Hong Kong Trade and Development Council has arranged a meeting
for us to meet with Michelle Kemp, the owner of the fashionable Signature
Fashion Double Bay shop. What a privilege to meet someone like Michelle who is
an expert on the women's wear market in Australia. Many thanks Michelle for all
those valuable insights!
11:00 - Now down to business. My first meetings of the trip with
buyers, stylists and the press from Latte Life newspaper. Then the models came
for the first fitting of my men's collection for the show on the 4th of May. I
must say I am very pleased so far. I hope everyone else will be as well!
15:00 - I have been so busy that I have forgotten to eat again. Too late
for lunch, so what could better than the famous high tea at the Queen Victoria
Building just next door to the Hong Kong House. Like in Hong Kong, some old
British customs still carry on famously here in Sydney. Think of high tea in
Hong Kong and we naturally conjure up images of the long queues at the regal
Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon. Queen Victoria would be proud.
18:30 -Off to an interview with a local radio station about what to be
looking for at the fashion show on May 4th. Then a delightful cocktail and wine
tasting at the Hong Kong House kindly sponsored by the Hong Kong Australia
Business Association. It is so great to meet so many new friends and taste such
delicious and different wines from Australia and New Zealand. Over 60 kinds of
wines were on offer! Hong Kong wine lovers certainly know and appreciate these
wines from Down Under. And Hong Kongers have the extra benefit of having no
taxes on wines!
21:00 - I think I have now tried all 60 kinds of the wines (hic!). It is
easy to over imbibe when you are having a great time and meeting so many people.
I had better stop if I am going to write out the last part of this
diary...
