This is the official start of a relationship between fashion designers and the Federal Government.

The Australian Fashion Chamber has finished up a four-day showroom in Paris, showcasing local designers to international media and buyers.

The 'Australian Designers Abroad' showroom received the support of the government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Cultural Diplomacy Program.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the industry last month, described the showroom opportunities as "unlimited".

This was the first major initiative since the document was signed before press and trade representations.

Camilla & Marc, Christopher Esber and Romance Was Born were among seven designers selected to take part in the Paris showroom.

Taking place as part of Paris Fashion Week, the launch of the showroom kicked off with a luncheon at the Australian Embassy in Paris on October 2.

The showroom was open to buyers and media from October 5 to 8.
