The Crowne Plaza hotel empire has joined forces with Cue, the Whitehouse Institute of Design and a Sleep School for a curious fashion project.

Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts has kicked off the ‘Dressed to Rest’ competition, challenging students from the Whitehouse Institute of Design to create a concept for stylish sleepwear that helps promote a good night’s sleep.

Third-year fashion design students in the Sydney and Melbourne campuses have been invited to submit a formal sketch accompanied by a description of their design, and provide detail around what inspired them.

The competition, which ends April 28, will see two winners selected by a judging panel from Singapore and Sydney, including: Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts director brand management Theresa Pragasam-Sidhu, Whitehouse Institute of Design academic director Dr. Melissa Laird, and Cue senior designer Lauren Vieyra.

'Sleep expert’ Tristian Kelly, also a naturopath and sleep therapist from Counting Seashells and The Bondi Sleep School – a clinic that specialises in sleep disorders – will also join the judging panel.

The winning students – one from each of Whitehouse’s Sydney and Melbourne campuses – will each receive a $2,500 grant from Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts to further their studies and fashion career. This is in addition to a week-long internship with Cue, with complimentary accommodation from Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts.

Commenting on Cue's involvement Vieyra said Cue is committed to fostering local talent and supporting young designers.

"The Cue design team finds inspiration everywhere though our focus is always on quality, creativity and original design. Being predominantly made in Australia allows us to experiment with limited runs and have new arrivals in store six weeks from sketch to shop floor.

“What I'll be looking for is this mix of creativity and innovation in the concepts that the students produce. As an iconic Australian label Cue is proud to partner with the Whitehouse Institute and #DressedToRest, supporting the future of Australian fashion.”

The winners will be announced at a reveal event in Sydney and Melbourne for students and their families to attend.

This competition is part of a regional campaign which began earlier in the year, with winners today being announced in each of the countries that took part, including the UAE, Singapore, India and Japan.
