David Jones has announced a major shake up of its senior executive team.

David Collins will replace Donna Player as group executive – merchandise effective immediately, joining the retailer from its parent company Woolworths South Africa.

Collins brings with him experience in senior merchandise and commercial retail roles across womenswear, menswear, kids, home and accessories during a 25 year stint in the industry.

David Jones group executive – marketing, financial services and customer insights David Robinson will also leave the business effective immediately.

The company's COO David Thomas will take over the role for an interim period.

The company has also created a new role for a group executive – digital and is “well advanced” in the recruitment stages of appointing the position.

David Jones CEO John Dixon said that changes to its executive team have been made to take the business' operations to the next level and develop new capabilities in the next phase of its transformation.

“The creation of two new executive roles, combined with the introduction of new skills and experience, reflects key areas of strategic focus and will extend our capabilities during this exciting phase of the business’ development.

“I would like to thank both David and Donna for their strong contribution to the business over the years and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
