David Jones boss John Dixon has resigned following an announcement from Woolworths Holdings that the group would be discontinuing his role as regional CEO for the Australian region.

The chief executives of Woolworth Group's two Australian divisions, David Jones CEO David Thomas and Country Road Group CEO Scott Fyfe, will now report directly to Woolworths Group CEO Ian Moir.

In its announcement, Woolworths said that the move came as part of a strategic review of the group's structure in Australia.

“Following a strategic cost review, the Group has taken the decision to simplify its Australian regional leadership structure.

“We would like to thank John for his stewardship of the business over the last two and a half years and wish him every success for the future.”

In February, David Jones announced that its half year operating profit had fallen by 37.7% to $66 million on the back of a $712.5 million write-down of the business in January.

The company had also announced plans to continue its expansion into New Zealand in 2018 with a new store in Auckland as part of a NZ$790 million redevelopment of Westfield Newmarket.
