Instagram has launched its Shopping feature in Australia, allowing businesses to tag products for purchase directly within their posts.

Instagram Australia has partnered with three beta partners to trial the tool, with brands Country Road and Myer and PepperMayo the first to test it.

Having launched last year in the US, Australia will be the first market in Asia Pacific to give live with the new Shopping tool.

According to the social media platform, 80% of people on Instagram follow a business, with more than 200 million people visiting a business profile daily.

Shopping records over 180 million interactions between businesses and the community each month.

Country Road marketing manager for channels Paul Conti said customers have fully embraced mobile platforms.

"Instagram, in particular, has become an important part of our wider marketing strategy with proven success in driving reach, engagement and purchase.

“We’ve been impressed with how easy it has been to integrate Instagram Shopping into our existing strategy.

Once your product feed has been set up, it’s as easy to tag a product as it is to tag a person in your post.”
