Country Road is taking its sustainable retail journey to New Zealand.
Following the launch of its first 5 Star Green Star Design Review rated store in Australia, the brand has relaunched its Newmarket flagship.
The site is constructed with sustainable, ethical and innovative materials in mind.
The result is fixtures made from recycled yoghurt containers, carpet crafted from fishing nets and recycled paper wall cladding.
Country Road MD Elle Roseby said the opening of the Newmarket flagship was a milestone for the brand.
“The launch of our Newmarket flagship strengthens our ongoing commitment to sustainable design – not only in fashion, but in the retail space too.
"The store was designed to emulate our Chadstone flagship – our first 5 Star Green Star Design Review rated store in Australia – and follows a number of ongoing sustainability initiatives for Country Road.”
It will be the first retail store in New Zealand to target a 5 Star Green Star Interiors rating, awarded by the New Zealand Green Building Council.
The Council's Brad Crowley commended the store.
“Congratulations to Country Road for targeting this great green rating at its new Newmarket store, which represents excellence in Aotearoa."
The store follows the 2015 launch of Country Road Group’s Logistics Omni Fulfilment Centre, a state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Australia that was awarded a 5 Star Green Star rating.
As sustainable fashion surges, County Road plans to design more 5 Star Green Star stores in future, replicating the design features and materials of the Newmarket flagship.
The Newmarket flagship took six months to come to life, featuring premium store fixtures including:
• Parquetry flooring reclaimed from old buildings
• Fitting room hooks revitalised from ocean plastic
• Fitting room curtains made from recycled polyester
• Store fixtures and tables crafted from recycled plastic
• Luxurious wool wall hangings salvaged from leftover yarn
Most recently, the brand has launched Our World, a platform dedicated to sharing Country Road’s sustainability journey with the wider community, as well as recent campaigns featuring Traceable Merino Wool, Good Jeans and Recycled Nylon Swimwear.
