German-backed etailer theiconic.com.au is set to lose some of its top talent, with one of its founding staff members on the way out.

The Iconic head of buying Sarah Gale today confirmed her resignation from the top role, after 10 months of service.

Backed by German company Rocket Internet GmbH, who also founded European online shoe retailer Zalando, The Iconic launched in Australia late last year, offering free express-shipping nationwide and three-hour delivery in Sydney.

Gale, who was recruited by the company in September 2011, said she had enjoyed her “part in building The Iconic” but is looking forward to moving on to new ventures.

As part of this, Gale said she will also focus on continuing to grow her consultancy business, Fashionista Business Consultancy Group.

“I feel like I have achieved what I set out to do. Our aim was to build an amazing online store that would offer the best range of fashion and footwear in Australia.

“We launched within five weeks with 56 brands and over 500 products. It was a very exciting time, lots of hard work but also lots of fun,” she said.

“It is such an exciting time at the moment, and it has been great to specialise in the online space. I am eager to continue my work with retailers and brands in this very pivotal time of evolvement within the omni-channel environment.”

The Iconic managing director Ryan Tuohy also thanked Gale for her contribution to the company.

“I am extremely grateful for Sarah's contributions to The Iconic. She was instrumental in establishing The Iconic as a fashion authority.”
