Five Sydney-based artists are set to overhaul Broadway Sydney.

The shopping centre will transform into an open art gallery as part of a 'Public Art' initiative by owners Mirvac and Perron Group.

The centre's redevelopment is due for completion in August.

The artworks will be permanently showcased as part of the re-development of Broadway’s Level 2.

Art Pharmacy consulting director and curator of the ‘Public Art’ programme, Emilya Colliver, handpicked the local artists.

They will each create bespoke artwork to adorn four support columns located on the new Level 2, set to open in mid August, whilst master of murals, Mulga, will also activate the external entry to the new Level 2 precinct located on Francis Street.

The four Sydney-based artists transforming Level 2 are illustrator and silkscreen printer Kate Banazi, emerging furniture designer Vincent Buret, textiles artist Victoria Garcia and industrial designer Adam Goodrum.

Banazi has previously collaborated with designer Dion Lee.

“We’re really excited to be working with these local artists – the art will be one of a kind and first in its field. This is a great opportunity to connect with the local community and create opportunities for emerging artists whilst enhancing our public life and shopping experiences," Colliver said.

To inspire Broadway customers to get involved, Garcia, showcased three art concepts in the centre as part of an interactive voting Public Art exhibition – inviting shoppers to nominate the artwork they would like to see installed as a permanent central showpiece.

Over 1,900 Broadway locals cast their vote, with the winning concept to be debuted along with the ‘Public Art’ at Level 2.
