What fashion trends are Australian consumers searching for online?

Social commerce site Polyvore, which has more than 20 million active monthly users, has revealed statistics on the market.

1. Australians are all about accessories.

In fact, 70% of Australia’s most searched for styles were either a shoe or another accessory.

With this in mind, Polyvore dug into what exact items Australians wanted to add to their wardrobes.

The most popular choice was iridescent adidas Superstars, with statement bag shoppers after a brown Givenchy Antigona.
and sunglass werarers into pink, round Celine specs.

2. Celebrities are a source of fashion inspiration.

While the Hadid and Jenner sisters ranked highly for style inspiration, House of Cards star Robin Wright came in as the fourth most popular celebrity search in the last month.

Also a surprise was the lack of men in the top 30 style file.

Coming in at #31 was Harry Styles, Australia’s most popular male celebrity style influencer.

In fact, men were so unpopular in Australia’s style searches, the second most popular male search was the fictional Harry Potter.

3. Aussies love home decor

In addition to using Polyvore for fashion inspiration and creation, Australians also use Polyvore for interiors inspiration.

Searches for the category comprise 15% of Australia’s top 100 searches, with the global average sitting at less than 2%.

More specifically, Australians searched for boho-inspired bedding and glass terrariums, as well as black flatware and acrylic furniture.

4. Melbourne and Sydney reign supreme.

Sydney and Melbourne are the fashion hotspots of Australia.

However even the smaller cities, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Gold Coast, punched well above their weight driving fashion searches across the country.
