As Amazon Australia prepares to launch, clothing is set to be the third biggest category for the giant.

New research from Nielsen Omnibus, conducted in January, reveals that 3/4 of Australians aged 18+ are interested in Amazon Australia.

The platform, which is currently on a recruiting drive, is expected to launch down under in September 2017.

While electronics and and books are leading product categories, research shows clothing and footwear is in demand.

More than half of respondents would use Amazon Australia to purchase clothing, with 42% also interested in purchasing shoes.

The report shows that Amazon’s US site converts almost one-in-two (49%) Australian visitors into sales.

This is the fourth highest platform behind eBay (78%), The Book Depository (74%) and The Iconic (53%).

A total of 56% of respondents said they are likely to purchase from its Australian site.

Some 45% said they would pay to become an Amazon Prime member to receive special deals, discounts and delivery bonuses.
