Activewear is among the biggest growth categories in Australia fashion - but one platform looks set to face the axe.

Just two years since its launch, the future of Bauer's health magazine Women's Fitness is up in the air, with it looking like the title could be axed, despite strong circulation growth.

Reports about the impending closure come just 17 days after its second anniversary edition went on sale.

The soft ad-market is likely to be behind the proposed closure.

Figures from numerous sources continue to show the decline in print advertising, including a July PwC report.

In a statement, Bauer said: "Bauer Media confirms we are currently in discussions with staff on a proposal for the closure of Women’s Fitness magazine.

"Staff have been invited to provide feedback on the proposal, which would see Bauer’s Women’s Fitness title cease publication with the last issue.

"Following feedback, a final decision on the future of the title and staff will be made on Friday 3rd October, 2014."

According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) data Women's Fitness is up 10.9 per cent YOY in print, making it one of Bauer's best performing women's magazines in terms of growth.
