Sydney-based social enterprise Good On You has reached the tipping point for a crowdfunding campaign to build an app that will rate around 1000 fashion and beauty brands based on ethical standards.

Impact on people, the environment and animals will be among the deciding factors.

The team has reportedly raised the $25,000 needed to build the app and has sought assistance from organisations such as Baptist World Aid and Ethical Clothing Australia to collate information about brands for its rating system.

Good On You CEO Gordon Renouf believes that the app will cater to an increasing consumer demand for transparency in the apparel industry.

“People are increasingly interested in where their money goes.

“We want to help them choose brands that do good for our world.

“Shoppers can also use the app to keep the industry on their toes by sending a direct email to designers and brands - 'do good or we’ll shop somewhere else.'

“Fashion is self-expression, and it can be much more than just looking great. It can be an expression of our moral and ethical values via the products we buy.”

The Good On You app is now set to launch this September.
