Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival's Jacinta Richmond discusses the resurgence of couture in today's world.
Couture is our salvation for today’s fast paced world.
In an era consumed with ready to wear, couture is not only still relevant but is experiencing a resurgence. The definition of couture is “the design and manufacture of fashionable clothes to a client's specific requirements and measurements.”
So, when you think about it, it is slow fashion on a high-end scale. One that brings the consumer something we all crave now, a unique piece of art made just for us.
Ali Charisma is based in Bali, Indonesia. A couturier for our times, a mix of edge with traditional fabrics of wool, leather, silks and laces. Ali Charisma has been showcasing at couture and fashion weeks globally for many years, and in Australia exclusively at the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival in 2011, 2017 and again in 2019. From the catwalks of Hong Kong, New York and Paris Fashion Weeks straight to Australia. Aspirational, inspirational but also, at the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival, attainable, as Ali brings samples with him allowing guests to purchase without the wait.
Simone Ellis, established only recently in 2017, emphasises the essence of her client – their inner beauty, elegance and power of the women she dresses. Simone has recently returned from showing in New York. Hailing from the creative hub that is Byron Bay, Simone Ellis couture gowns are elegant with a grandiose aura. Simone Ellis is only a babe in the scheme of Australian couture but one to watch and if she keeps up her stunning work and excellent quality, one to see on catwalks globally.
Both Ali Charisma and Simone Ellis will showcase couture collections this October, 2019 poolside as the sun goes down.
